Nurses Careers

The role of a nurse is varied and dependent on the nature of the assignment being undertaken. The information provided here is given as a guide only and should be read in conjunction with local guidelines on the Nurses’ role and NMC guidelines. Typical duties may include:

  • To provide care as planned and or to develop care plans in conjunction with members of the multidisciplinary team
  • To ensure that all care provided is documented and signed at the end of the shift and to take responsibility for the work of HCAs  and countersigning their entries
  • To administer prescribed medication in line with NMC and local guidelines
  • To document and report serious incidents as per local serious incident reporting guidelines including RIDDOR
  • To safeguard the confidentiality of service users information at all times
  • To uphold the highest standards of professionalism at all time

Health Care Assistants

As a Care Worker with AQS you could make a real difference to a peoples’ lives. Working under the supervision of a qualified nurse, typical duties will include:

  • Moving and transferring of the client
  • Providing support to the nurse in charge
  • Assistance with fluid and food intake
  • Assistance with personal care i.e. washing, dressing/undressing, use of the toilet
  • Assistance with continence e.g. with a catheter and pad change
  • Monitoring and observation of client’s condition
  • Helping client effectively by following plan of care
  • Hospital discharge service (where care workers are there to support in the home when a service user comes home from hospital)
  • Community support i.e. supporting clients in their own homes
  • Documentation of care in client file
  • To safeguard the confidentiality of service users information at all times.

Needs of the client will change depending on the individual, making this an interesting and varied career. Whether you are an experienced care worker, looking for a few hours a week or full time hours, we can find the work to suit you.

Alternatively, you may have no previous experience but would like to develop a new career as a Health Care Assistant. At AQS we provide all our employees with full training to help prepare you for your new role.

Your first training session will be an induction to AQS which includes:

  • Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults
  • Moving and Handling
  • Dementia Care

In addition to the above, you will also shadow a Nurse or Senior Health Care Assistant, typically in a Care Home or Hospital setting as part of the induction process.

Apprentice Health Care Assistants

AQS currently provides apprenticeship opportunities, completion of which leads to a Diploma in Health and Social Care. Typically lasting for 9-12 months, suitable applicants will be provided with the training and practical clinical experience needed to become a qualified Health Care Assistant, a pathway to a nursing qualification.

AQS works with approved suppliers on the Government Apprenticeship Framework to deliver high quality, tailored programmes. You will also be provided with an Advisor and Mentor who will support and guide you through your training.
